17 September 2002 Gale Via Frank Gravier, Gale Resource Liaison, we received a message from Gale on Monday, September 16 stating the following: Around 12:30 pm we started seeing the number of user sessions rise dramatically until we had almost double the normal number for our systems. There are no server failures we can detect, and no undue network traffic. We are examining the sytems to determine the source of the extra sessions. We also are working with Exodus to bring 2 Unix servers and 2 NT servers online as quickly as possible. --------- At around 4 pm yesterday, Gale reported that performance was back to normal but they were still investigating the cause. We received the following notice today: We will be working this evening on a fix to the problem that has been plaguing everyone for the past two days. We do not plan to bring the whole system down to do this but you may see intermittent problems from 10pm EDT (3am GMT). I will update you regarding our progress with this fix, and my apologies for the inconvenience this has caused you.
