Release 1526 makes some very straightforward changes related to
EDB data element 2004, Duration of Appointment Code, but it's
surprising how many areas of PPS are touched.
The functional changes are:
- Introduction of a new Duration of Appointment Code value of 'C',
signifying continuing appointments with indefinite appointment
end dates. The immediate use will be for AFT employees
in transition from post-6-year lecturer appointments to 'continuing'
appointments.
- A campus-requested change for Duration of Appointment Code 'S',
signifying security of employment. Currently indefinite end dates
may not be coded for such appointments, but will in future be allowed.
What's touched in PPS:
- Edit program PPEC001.
- PAF program PPP170 (currently used only by SC, among our sites),
to label the new 'C' code appropriately.
- Another one-time program is issued, this time to change employees
with code 'S' from definite to indefinite appointment end dates and
produce a report identifying them. Appointment end date is a
history database field, thus we'll need to run PPP742 process the
EDBCHG file that is generated, to get the updates into the HDB.
- CICS Help
- The programs supporting CICS function codes IAPP and IAPT are
modified to look up descriptive text for Duration of Appointment Code
values via a call to the Code Translation Table utility program rather
than having it hard-coded.
TABLE UPDATES
- data element - to add the new 'C' value
- code translation - to add descriptive text of field length 11 for the new
'C' value -- and to add a full set of descriptive text entries of field
length 6
for all Duration of Appointment Code values
- message - to change the text of existing message 08-062 (end date
must be indefinite) to include codes 'C' and 'S'
May we have your ok to install?
