Release 1540 is presented as the solution to the problem of error
message 08-332 (Deduction requires a dollar or percent error) being
issued for employees with HCRA effective dates and no related
G balance. The release letter mentions this occurring at Berkeley and
San Francisco, and among our sites, Santa Cruz has reported it.
The problem is actually more general, in that it can occur any time
that a declining balance reaches zero, because the corresponding
BRSC effective date is not being re-initialized to 0001-01-01. It's just
that this is the time of the year when we expect to employees to
have completely paid off their outstanding HCRA balances, so we're
seeing more instances of it.
In r1540, program PPP400 is modified to cure the problem by
initializing the BRSC effective date when the associated G balance
is set to zero. There's also an incidental technical change to
PPP410 bind statements.
There are no table updates.
Although marked as 'not urgent', it's advisable to implement r1540
as soon as possible to get rid of the 08-332 error messages, so we have
given it priority over some other less critical releases. May we have your
approval to install?
