Archive Cycles 10 & 11 are off to a great start, with over 90% of WEST members participating by submitting their unarchived holdings files through AGUA. As these files are being processed, the WEST project team has been finishing up the latest AGUA development phase, distributed a call for statistics to WEST members, and has been participating in the wider shared print community to investigate ways to improve and strengthen the national shared print infrastructure.

Please follow the links below to check out the full posts on the WESTinfo blog.

Ø  WEST Phase 4 AGUA Systems Development Updates: The AGUA development team has wrapped up its Phase 4 development cycle and has deployed front-end updates to the user interface as well as back-end changes that will help facilitate journal family identification and collection analysis. The new developments help strengthen AGUA’s collection analysis capabilities, such as through enhanced ability to identify journal families, using eISSN as an alternative matchpoint for identifying journal families for titles with no print ISSN, and deriving missing ISSNs for archived titles to reduce the chance of duplicated archiving commitments. Other enhancements include new user interfaces for submitting files directly in AGUA, performing the review of locations contained in unarchived holdings files, a new institutional roster, automatic totals in the Archiver journal commitment interface, and the inclusion of local holdings call numbers in AGUA reports. Read on for more information about each of these new enhancements.

Ø  Call for WEST Archiving, Deselection, and Lending Statistics for Cycle 8 (2018/2019): Every year WEST asks member institutions to report information about various programmatic activities, including archiving for WEST, lending of WEST archived materials, and deselection of journals from local collections. This year we’re using a slightly different approach from previous years: instead of distributing Excel files that are filled out individually and then combined by CDL staff, the WEST project team is using a combination of Google Sheets and Google Forms. Read on for more information about WEST statistics.

Ø  Updates from OCLC on shared print infrastructure: In the summer of 2018, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation awarded a grant to OCLC and CRL to support a joint Shared Print Data Infrastructure project to “enhance the underlying infrastructure of the OCLC WorldCat database and CRL’s Print Archives Preservation Registry (PAPR) to accommodate and make accessible actionable data for shared print serials management.” Several of these enhancements are geared toward centralizing and streamlining the retention registration process, enhancing discovery of retention commitments, and facilitating better communication/syncing between OCLC WorldCat and CRL’s PAPR holdings information for registered titles. Read on for more information about OCLC’s updates to shared print infrastructure.

Ø  UPDATE: Location Announced for WEST Member Meeting at ALA Midwinter: The WEST Member Meeting at ALA Midwinter 2020 in Philadelphia, PA, will be held on Sunday, January 26 from 1-2:30pm EST. The meeting will take place in the Franklin 1 room of the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown (1201 Market St), located on the 4th floor. This session is open to anyone interested in WEST or shared print. Read on for more information as well as a link to RSVP.

All the best,

The WEST Project Team
