With the conclusion of the 2019 WEST Assessment and the release of the report analyzing the findings from the member survey and focus group discussions, WEST has been busy hosting webinars to communicate the results to members and has drafted charges for two of the working groups the WEST governance groups recommended be formed to review specific topics from the assessment. Ø  WEST Assessment webinar summary: The WEST project team hosted three webinars presenting brief program updates, an overview of findings from the 2019 WEST Assessment, and the outcomes of the strategic planning session held in October 2019. Webinar participants represented a well-rounded cross-section of member institutions and staff roles. During the Q&A sections, the most common topic of group discussion related to the possibilities and implications of collaborating at a national level to improve shared print tools and expand the collective collection. Read on for more discussion notes and next steps for WEST in 2020.

 

Ø  Call for Volunteers for WEST 2020 Working Groups –Disclosure and Validation Standards and Resource Sharing: At the 2019 WEST Strategic Planning Session, WEST governance committee members created a set of strategic recommendations to guide WEST through the coming years. Among the recommendations were to create a number of working groups to review and investigate specific questions for WEST’s operations in the coming years. The Operations and Collections Council has charged two working groups, one to review, discuss, and revise WEST policies and practices disclosure and validation standards and one to review, discuss, and revise resource sharing guidelines within WEST to update them for local needs and national practices, and is soliciting volunteers to serve on one or both groups. Ø  Rosemont Shared Print Alliance updates – new introductory video!: The Rosemont Shared Print Alliance has been off to a busy start in 2020, hosting its first open, public meeting at Temple University’s Charles Library during ALA Midwinter (including the unveiling of a new introductory video), approving best practices for metadata, validation, and condition of shared serials, and is currently seeking ratification of new Last Copy Principles and Guidelines from the partner programs (which WEST ratified at the end of February).
