This summer has already seen several webinars, shared print meetings, and major updates on collaborations that will enhance the shared print infrastructure nationally. WEST held its first all-virtual Members’ Meeting, and the Print Archive Network (PAN) hosted its first all-virtual forum. CDL, CRL, and HathiTrust released a framing document that lays out the principles, vision, mission, and assumptions that underpin their collaboration to enhance the shared print infrastructure, and OCLC and CRL held a webinar to introduce the shared print community to their recently-released shared print registration service and enhanced OCLC Metadata API. Finally, WEST updated its About WEST web pages to create a more intuitive structure and to make more accessible key program and operational documents.

⮚ Notes from the summer WEST Members’ Meeting: WEST hosted its summer Members’ Meeting on June 22, the first Members’ Meeting to be offered entirely virtually. Over 40 individuals from over 35 WEST member institutions were in attendance, hearing program updates as well as targeted presentations on burgeoning collaborations in the shared print community and changes to WEST member fees over the next three fiscal years. Due to the sensitive nature of the financial information presented, the presentation recording and slide deck will be made available to WEST affiliates upon request. Read on<https://cdlib.org/cdlinfo/2020/06/30/notes-from-the-summer-west-members-meeting/> for more notes on the Members’ Meeting, and for information on how to obtain a copy of the recording.
⮚ CDL, CRL, & HathiTrust Collaboration for Shared Print Infrastructure: In June, California Digital Library (CDL), the Center for Research Libraries (CRL), & HathiTrust affirmed their commitment – first announced in January 2020 – to take the lead in building on the last decade of shared print efforts to realize an interconnected and open infrastructure that embeds shared print more completely in library services and operations. Read on<https://cdlib.org/cdlinfo/2020/07/01/cdl-crl-hathitrust-collaboration-for-shared-print-infrastructure/> for the full joint announcement and a link to the principles, vision, mission, and assumptions that frame this collaboration.

⮚ Print Archive Network Forum Summary and Follow-up Discussion: On Friday, June 26, the Center for Research Libraries hosted the first ever all-virtual Print Archive Network (PAN) Forum<https://www.crl.edu/events/pan-ala-annual-2020-online> bringing together over 100 colleagues of the collaborative library community for a robust agenda of short presentations and panel discussions. It was the best-attended PAN Forum in the history of the event and one of the most engaging sets of topics yet. As a follow up, PAN is hosting a “water cooler” session for a more informal, virtual face to face discussion of the topics on Thursday July 2 at 12pm ET / 9am PT. Read on<https://cdlib.org/cdlinfo/2020/07/01/print-archive-network-forum-summary-and-follow-up-discussion-july-2nd-from-9-10am-pt/> for Forum highlights and notes, and for information for joining the water cooler discussion.
⮚ OCLC Webinar Recording Available: In late May 2020 OCLC and the Center for Research Libraries unveiled enhancements to the shared print infrastructure that were collaboratively developed with the financial support of a Mellon Foundation grant. On June 17 OCLC hosted a webinar to introduce the wider shared print community to the enhancements and provide an overview of the new tools and workflows, including options for registering commitments and how data will be synced between OCLC WorldCat and CRL’s Print Archives Preservation Registry (PAPR). Read on<https://cdlib.org/cdlinfo/2020/07/01/oclc-webinar-recording-available-shared-print-registration-and-discovery-new-tools-services-and-support-for-libraries/> for links to the recording and the presentation slides.

⮚ Introducing new ‘About WEST’ web pages: One of the recommendations made by the WEST governance groups at the 2019 Strategic Planning Session was to “assess and update WEST’s website, curation of documentation, and communication strategies.” To this end, the WEST project team has been working to inventory of content in existing web pages, wikis, and other shared spaces and to draft a new structure for the WEST web pages. The project team is excited to unveil the first section of the WEST website to be overhauled, About WEST<https://cdlib.org/west/about-west/>. Read on<https://cdlib.org/cdlinfo/2020/06/22/introducing-new-about-west-web-pages/> for an overview of the changes and how WEST members can use the resources.

All the best,
The WEST Project Team
