August and September were very busy in the WEST program! The collections analysis wrapped up and Cycles 10 and 11 archiving proposals were distributed for review and commitment, Cycle 9 retention disclosure files were ingested into AGUA and collection comparison reports were generated, the AGUA interface was redesigned, and new WEST Archives pages were launched on the WEST website.

Please follow the links below to check out the full posts on the WESTinfo blog.

Cycles 10/11 Archiving Proposals Available for Review: In fall 2019 full WEST members submitted their unarchived serials holdings to WEST for analysis, which identifies the next set of journals for archiving. WEST is pleased to announce that the analysis is complete, and proposals for Cycles 10/11 archiving are now available for review in AGUA. Read on for more information about the analysis, including the priorities that helped shape the final proposals and how to find and review your institution’s proposals.

Cycle 9 (2020) Collection Comparison Reports: Every year after WEST archivers submit information about their recent archiving activity, WEST generates collection comparison reports for full members who supplied files of unarchived serials for the most recent collections analysis. Cycle 9 archiving information was submitted to WEST over the summer, and the newest collection comparison reports are now available for download in AGUA. Read on for more information about these annual collection comparison reports, the On Demand Comparison tool, and how to access each.

AGUA Interface Design Refresh: Over the summer, the AGUA technical team partnered with the California Digital Library User Experience team to conduct a thorough review of the AGUA interface and create a new design to enhance usability of the site. The result is a modern design that better compartmentalizes information to help make reports and functionalities easier to find and also meets web accessibility standards. Read on for more information about the design, with links to AGUA and the newly updated AGUA User Manual.

WEST Webinar Recording: WEST hosted a webinar on September 24 introducing the new AGUA interface and providing information on how to access and use the collection comparison reports and new archiving proposal review pages. The recording and presentation slide deck are now available on the WEST website. Visit the Documents & Presentations page on the WEST website for links to the recording and presentation slide deck.

Introducing Updated WEST Archives Web Pages: Following the 2019 strategic recommendation to “assess and update WEST’s website, curation of documentation, and communication strategies,” WEST has launched a reconceived WEST Archives section on the WEST website. These updates pages provide information about the collection, including how journals are selected for archiving and the requirements for archiving, as well as how members can contribute to the collections and access their content. Also included are extensive resources for archiving institutions. Read on for more information about the new pages and links to access them.

All the best,

The WEST Project Team
