The WEST project team and the shared print community at large have had a very productive spring. WEST has produced new member resources for communicating the value and goals of the WEST program and has made considerable progress on systems development projects to enhance and expand AGUA capabilities. The CCH Collab hosted discussions with the library community on how shared print can be better integrated into everyday library workflows, and OCLC released a new resource to help libraries navigate using the shared print flag in various OCLC products and services. On the administrative side, WEST is conducting its yearly contact review, and asks that all Primary Contacts confirm or update institutional contacts to ensure continuity of communications.

Please follow the links below to check out the full posts on the WESTInfo blog.

New Value of WEST and Member Communications Resources: As part of WEST’s continued efforts to support member communication about the goals and value of WEST, a new suite of documents are now available for members to use both internally and externally when discussing WEST and shared print initiatives. Included are both high-level overviews of shared print and the WEST program as well as more targeted info briefs for different library roles. Read on for more details and links to the new documents.

AGUA Development Phase 5: Mid-Phase Report: The WEST technical team is mid-way through its fifth biennial systems development phase (Phase 5). The team has made considerable progress on the ambitious list of projects prioritized for development, and is on track to complete all prioritized work by the end of the development period. Read on for an overview of this development phase and a link to a detailed progress report.

Shared Print in the Collections Lifecycle: The CDL, CRL, and HathiTrust Shared Print Collaboration hosted two open discussions to gather feedback from the shared print and library communities about the needs and trajectories of embedding shared print in the collections lifecycle. Read on for links to view the recordings of the discussion sessions and for information about how to provide feedback, suggestions, and reflections on how shared print can be more fully embedded in the everyday work of libraries.

Shared Print Functionalities Across OCLC Services: In their continued support of shared print, OCLC has released a guide to accessing shared print information in various OCLC products based on commitments registered by institutions and programs. Read on for information about which OCLC products and services support the shared print flag, and for resources to learn more about the shared print registration service.

Yearly WEST Contacts Review: WEST has recently sent an email to all Primary Contacts asking them to review and, if necessary, update their contacts for various WEST and AGUA activities. This ensures that WEST is sending communications to the appropriate staff at each member institution, and that no members are inadvertently left out of any activities due to outdated records at WEST. Read on for descriptions of each contact role and how to update your institution’s contacts.

All the best,

The WEST Project Team
