At the Payroll Technical meeting last Friday, representatives of a number
of sites reported that their 1042-S files had been rejected by the IRS,
and the common thread was errors in 'country' values, specifically
the translation of a 2-character country code into a descriptive name.
The problem was that there are two country codes available, and the
wrong one was being translated. R1640 modifies program PP1042ST
to translate Country of Residence (EDB 0143) rather than Country of the
Foreign Address (EDB 1118).
There are no table updates.
May we have your ok to install the release? Also please let Production
Control and me know if your 1042-S file was rejected and should be
re-created using the modified program. Testing has shown that only
'phase 2' processing, i.e., the PPP730 run after the extract file has
already been created and PPP722 has been run, would be needed.
