Dear Nancy,

With this email I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself as your contact at frontiers for matters relating to institutional accounts.

The reason for contacting you is to invite you to discuss the possibility of the University of California, San Diego joining Frontiers Institutional Plans. There is a number of articles published with Frontiers authored by the University's affiliates and I though it would be a good opportunity to discuss the plans available in order to centralize and simplify procedures but also monitor and manage costs via monthly statements. According to data from our finance department, 24 articles are published in 2014 so far and 13 are under review.

In the space of a few years, Frontiers<http://www.frontiersin.org/> has emerged as one of the leading open-access publishers, by providing a strong proposition based on editorial focus, social networking, and our acclaimed review process. You might be interested to know that a quick scan of our database revealed that 492 people from the University are already members of the Frontiers Research Network.

Because your community has already strongly linked into ours, we would like to tell you about the possibilities for setting up an institutional account here at Frontiers for your affiliates that publish in one of the 40 Frontiers journals. This arrangement would streamline their open-access publishing experience by greatly simplifying the procedure for reimbursement for article processing fees (APCs). We have two basic plans to choose from.

The first is a direct-invoicing arrangement. This would allow us to consolidate all the publication APCs into a single monthly bill, which would then be submitted to you for validation of the affiliation match of the corresponding author. This arrangement makes the APCs transparent, centralised and more manageable. This plan does not require upfront payment or deposit.

As institutions begin to publish higher volumes of papers with Frontiers, the pre-payment plan is worth considering. This operates exactly as the direct-invoicing plan, except that pre-payment into a Frontiers account simplifies even further the administration and handling of fees. Monthly statements inform you precisely about usage of your affiliates, and discounts are applied.

Establishing an institutional account with Frontiers is a simple way of encouraging your community to participate in the revolution of Open Science. If you have any questions about these plans, or if you would like some advice from our finance and accounting office about the plan that would best suit your needs, please do contact us.

You will find additional information about Frontiers Institutional Plans in the attached document.

and the link to the Frontiers Institutional Members Page http://www.frontiersin.org/about/frontierssupporters

I hope to have the pleasure of talking with you directly about such an arrangement between UC San Diego and Frontiers.

I am at your disposal and looking forward to your feedback and comments.

Kindest regards,

Villy Ioannou
