The WEST project team spent April settling in to extended remote work and picking up normal activities while also responding to the ongoing changes within and needs of WEST members. Going into May WEST is entering the planning stages of the next AGUA development cycle, coordinating with Archivers to add Cycle 9 disclosure records to WEST's master database of archived journals, and working on the collection analysis that will produce the archiving proposals for Cycles 10 and 11. Additionally, some WEST members have expressed interest in metadata cleanup projects that can be done remotely, which WEST is supporting through validation reports and sharing community standards documents.

Please follow the links below to check out the full posts on the WESTinfo blog.

Ø AGUA Development Phase 5 - Input Requested: WEST is currently in the beginning planning stages for the next AGUA development cycle, Phase 5. To help aid in this planning, WEST is soliciting input from all staff at all member institutions to help identify enhancements that will improve day to day use of AGUA and help support local collection management workflows and decision making. Read on<https://cdlib.org/cdlinfo/2020/04/28/agua-development-phase-5-input-requested/> for more information about the AGUA development process and a link to the enhancement proposal submission form. The deadline for submitting proposals is May 29, 2020.

Ø Call for Cycle 9 Archiving Disclosures: The disclosure period for Cycle 9 archiving is now open! WEST is calling for Archivers to disclose their archiving activity during Cycle 9 by submitting records for archived journals to AGUA. The disclosure period runs through June 30, 2020. Read on<https://cdlib.org/cdlinfo/2020/05/04/call-for-cycle-9-archive-disclosures-due-june-30-2020/> for more information about WEST disclosure.

Ø Analysis sheds light on changes in journal risk level over time: As the collection analysis progresses, the WEST project team has been performing some additional lightweight analyses to investigate points of interest that came to light in the 2019 program assessment. An opportunity arose to analyze a small dataset to investigate changes in electronic availability over time, and revealed that, based on the most current information about electronic availability, 13% of the titles analyzed would be placed in a different Archive Type than the one they were placed in when they were first added to the WEST archive. Read on<https://cdlib.org/cdlinfo/2020/04/29/analysis-sheds-light-on-changes-in-journal-risk-level-over-time/> for more detailed information about this small but interesting analysis.

Ø Metadata projects for remote work: As stay at home orders continue to be extended in many states and campuses remain closed across the region, the WEST project team has heard from several members expressing interest in metadata cleanup projects that can be performed remotely. The Center for Research Libraries has recently produced metadata validation reports for some archvers, and the list of categories they review can provide a guide for all libraries interested in cleaning up their records. Read on<https://cdlib.org/cdlinfo/2020/04/02/crl-metadata-validation-reports-for-papr-disclosures-available/> for more information about the CRL reports as well as a link to CRL's glossary of categories for review.

All the best,

The WEST Project Team
