As we head into summer WEST is engaging in some regular activities to close out the current Archiving Cycle, prepare for the coming fiscal year, and keep members updated on the state of the program and the wider shared print community. The blog posts linked below provide information on the upcoming WEST members’ meeting and Print Archive Network (PAN) Forum (both of which are 100% virtual this year), an update on the Mellon Foundation-supported shared print infrastructure enhancements that OCLC and the Center for Research Libraries have been working on, updating WEST contacts, and submitting disclosures for Archive Cycle 9.

⮚       WEST Virtual Members' Meeting - June 22, 1-2:30 pm PT: WEST will hold its summer members’ meeting virtually outside of the ALA Annual virtual conference this year on Monday, June 22, from 1-2:30 pm PT. Members do not need to be registered for ALA in order to attend the members’ virtual meeting, which will focus on a range of significant program updates. ⮚       Registration Open for Virtual PAN Forum – June 26, 12-3pm PT: Registration is now open for this year’s Print Archive Network (PAN) Forum, which will take place virtually on June 26, 2020, from 12-3pm PT / 2-5pm CT. The PAN Forum will include updates from various shared print programs and initiatives, followed by panel discussions on JSTOR archives and the print/digital connection. WEST representatives Cathy Martyniak (UC SRLF), Sion Romaine (University of Washington), and Kerry Scott (UC Santa Cruz) will be participating on panels, one of which will be moderated by WEST Program Manager Alison Wohlers. ⮚       OCLC Launches Shared Print Infrastructure Enhancements: In 2018 OCLC and the Center for Research Libraries were awarded a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to support a joint Shared Print Data Infrastructure project. Two major development projects that OCLC and CRL have undertaken are a service for registering shared print commitments to enhance the visibility of shared print in OCLC WorldCat, and an API that facilitates discovery of these critical collections. These new services were launched in late May, and OCLC will host a webinar on June 17 to introduce them to the shared print community. ⮚       WEST Contact Updates: WEST has recently sent an email to all Primary Contacts asking them to review and, if necessary, update their contacts for various WEST activities. This ensures that WEST is sending communications to the appropriate staff at each member institution, and that no members are inadvertently left out of any activities due to outdated records at WEST. ⮚       REMINDER: Submit WEST Cycle 9 Archiving Disclosures by June 30: The yearly disclosure period is currently ongoing, and WEST archivers who have not yet disclosed their Cycle 9 archiving activity are encouraged to do so by June 30. Please note that if you are not able to submit your disclosure file by that date you may submit your Cycle 9 disclosures next year along with your Cycle 10 disclosures.
