As we wind down the year, WEST has a number of updates to share with members. Members have completed reviewing Cycles 10/11 archiving proposals and have submitted their commitment selections; as part of this process, WEST is extremely pleased to announce that two members, the University of Denver and the University of Missouri, are expanding their role in WEST by becoming Archive Builders, meaning they will take on the additional responsibility of archiving journals designated as Silver and Gold. Read on for more information about these developments as well as the progress being made by the CDL/CRL/HathiTrust collaboration to enhance the national infrastructure for shared print, registering for the upcoming WEST members meeting, and links to recently published articles in the library literature that address shared print.

Please follow the links below to check out the full posts on the WESTinfo<https://cdlib.org/cdlinfo/category/collections/west/> blog.

⮚ WEST Cycles 10/11 Archiving Commitments Are Complete! The WEST project team is pleased to announce that WEST archivers committed to retain 2,770 journal families, comprising an estimated 90,587 volumes. Archivers are reviewing and updating their holdings to reflect these commitments, and Archive Builders will soon be issuing calls for holdings to fill gaps in their local holdings and complete their retained backfiles. Read on<https://cdlib.org/cdlinfo/2020/12/03/west-cycles-10-11-archiving-commitments-are-complete/> for more information about the WEST Cycles 10/11 archiving commitments and next steps to expect.

⮚ WEST Welcomes Two New Archive Builders: During the 2019 Strategic Planning Session, the WEST governance groups issued two strategic recommendations that shaped the 2020 collections analysis: to identify Silver and Gold journals not held by any of the six Builders, and to recruit 2-4 additional members to participate in the Cycles 10 & 11 collection analysis as Archive Builders. WEST is very pleased to announce that this effort led to two members, the University of Denver and the University of Missouri, expanding their roles in WEST to become Archive Builders. Read on<https://cdlib.org/cdlinfo/2020/11/24/west-welcomes-two-new-archive-builders/> for more information about these exciting developments.

⮚ Update from the CDL, CRL & HT Collaboration: Earlier this year the California Digital Library (CDL), the Center for Research Libraries (CRL), and HathiTrust (HT) announced that they were embarking on a new collaboration to take the lead in building on the last decade of shared print efforts to realize an interconnected and open infrastructure that embeds shared print more completely in library services and operations. Foundational documents were shared with the community in July, and the collaboration is pleased to announce the first project that is being jointly undertaken: a freely available, web-accessible tool that will enable any library to compare lists of serial holdings with serial retention commitments in PAPR in order to distinguish, in the local list, what has been retained and what has not. Read on<https://cdlib.org/cdlinfo/2020/11/04/update-from-the-cdl-crl-ht-collaboration-first-small-project-to-realize-open-collaborative-infrastructure-for-shared-print-webinars/> for more information about this first collaborative project.

⮚ Save the Date: WEST Members Meeting scheduled for Thursday January 28, 9:30-11am PT: WEST will be holding its semi-annual members meeting virtually on Thursday January 28 from 9:30-11am PT. Read on<https://cdlib.org/cdlinfo/2020/11/20/save-the-date-west-virtual-members-meeting-january-28-930-11am-pt-registration-open/> for more information about what updates members can expect, and a link to register to join the meeting.

⮚ Shared Print in Library Literature: The last several months has seen the publication of several articles on shared print. This selection includes an article on the value of item-level collection inventories to bolstering trust through increased accuracy, an article outlining the history and future of shared print as a project of ever greater connectedness and collaboration (co-authored by WEST Program Manager Alison Wohlers), and a third article on the impressive growth of the Partnership for Shared Book Collections, a national federation of shared print monograph programs. Read on<https://cdlib.org/cdlinfo/2020/11/04/new-articles-on-shared-print-in-library-literature/> for brief overviews and links to these articles, as well as links to supplemental resources for performing item-level inventories.

All the best,

The WEST Project Team
