Hi SCCKG:

We know there's a lot of overlap with OSC and this group, but please see
the request below and consider answering this survey, or coordinating with
your relevant campus colleagues on a joint submission.

Cheers,
Tim

Subject: HELIOS UCOP Cohort: Survey on UC Open Scholarship
To: <[log in to unmask]>

Dear OSC Colleagues:

UCOP, through the work of the HELIOS UCOP Cohort, seeks your help in creating
a high-level overview of activities and services that UC is providing to
support open scholarship. We hope that this resource can help all of us
gain a foundational understanding of how UC at present engages in open
scholarship, and perhaps flag where we currently have gaps. We intend to
share this resource with campus-based HELIOS cohorts for input; with senior
leadership to identify synergies across the system; and with external
partners to demonstrate our collective expertise and investment.

*Background:*

The Higher Education Leadership Initiative for Open Scholarship
<https://www.heliosopen.org/> (HELIOS) is a member-based community of more
than 60 U.S. colleges and universities working to advance open scholarship
within and across their campuses. HELIOS has also positioned itself as a
conduit for conversations between the federal government and higher
education.

The HELIOS UCOP cohort consists of:

   - Theresa Maldonado, Vice President for Research and Innovation (Cohort
   lead)
   - Günter Waibel, Associate Vice Provost and Executive Director (Library
   representative)
   - Professor Maryann Martone (Academic Senate representative)
   - Professor Christine Cassel (UC Health representative)

*What is Open Scholarship: *

HELIOS defines open scholarship (sometimes called “open science” or “open
research”) as an expansive term meant to encompass the rapid and widespread
sharing of a range of scholarly activities and outputs, across disciplines.
Open scholarship promotes inclusivity, transparent and trustworthy
research, innovation, and collaboration.

*Our Ask: **Complete this Survey* <https://forms.gle/qZcbVmw9LjZKDUj6A>

The HELIOS UCOP cohort aims to develop a high-level consolidated list of
activities and services that UC is providing to support open scholarship.
To accomplish this, we need your help.

Specifically, we ask that you complete *this survey*
<https://forms.gle/qZcbVmw9LjZKDUj6A> to identify the top 2-3 highest
impact efforts and services in open scholarship you see on your campus.

On the survey, we also ask that you identify researchers who have had
successes in open scholarship. We would like to organize a seminar series
to hear directly from those who have carved paths in open scholarship,
including those in the humanities and social sciences fields who have
traditionally been underrepresented in this conversation.

Please complete the survey here by *June 15th* and share with other UC
colleagues you think would be interested.

If you have any questions, please contact Agnes Balla, Director, Research
Policy Analysis and Coordination, University of California Office of the
President, at [log in to unmask]

Sincerely,

Agnes
